Banco Macro Continues to Outshine in Q2 2026 with Double-Digit Net Income Growth and Strong Asset Quality

Banco Macro, a leading financial institution in Argentina, has once again demonstrated its resilience and strength in the face of economic uncertainty. In its recent Q2 2026 earnings conference call, the company reported a 39% quarter-on-quarter increase in net income, reaching ARS 206.8 billion. This impressive growth represents an annual return on equity (ROE) of 13.4%, with adjusted ROE still at 14.3%, up 4.4 percentage points from the last quarter.

One of the key highlights of the quarter was the stable maintenance of margins, despite challenging economic conditions. Net interest income remained steady, while deposits continued to represent 76% of liabilities, thanks to a fall in the average cost of interest-bearing liabilities below 20%. This demonstrates Banco Macro's ability to navigate complex market conditions and maintain its profitability.

The company also made significant progress on efficiency initiatives, with another 18 branch closures during the quarter. These efforts have helped reduce costs and improve operational efficiency, resulting in an after-tax restructuring charge of ARS 14 billion, relatively unchanged from the previous quarter.

One area where Banco Macro truly stands out is its asset quality. The company's non-performing loans (NPLs) ratio remained at a healthy 6.25%, below the system average of 7.7%. Moreover, coverage stood at an impressive 95.4%, above the market average of 86.3% in May.

Lending growth, however, remained challenging, with total lending increasing only 3% quarter-on-quarter and decreasing 5% year-over-year. Despite this, the company's private sector loan market share remains stable at 8.2%, indicating its continued presence in a competitive market.

Overall, Banco Macro's Q2 2026 results demonstrate the company's ability to navigate complex economic conditions while maintaining strong asset quality and profitability. With a Tier 1 ratio of 28% and ample liquidity, the company is well-positioned to pursue growth and strategic opportunities.

Breaking down the quarter-over-quarter P&L variations, Banco Macro reported a significant increase in net income due to higher income from government securities for valued profit or loss, lower loan loss provisions, and lower losses from the net monetary position. Net interest income decreased 1% quarter-on-quarter, as lower funding costs mostly offset lower loan yields and average lending volumes.

Income from securities decreased by 18% to ARS 30.5 billion quarter-on-quarter, a result of a one-off ARS 71 billion gain from the sale of bonds in the first quarter of 2026. This decrease is not unexpected, as the company had recognized this exceptional item earlier in the year.

Overall, Banco Macro's Q2 2026 results demonstrate its continued strength and resilience in a challenging economic environment. The company's commitment to efficiency initiatives, strong asset quality, and profitability make it an attractive player in the Argentine financial market.
