Medtronic Delivers Strong Q1 Performance, Reinforcing Confidence in Long-Term Growth

In a highly anticipated earnings webcast, Medtronic, a leading medical technology company, reported impressive first-quarter (Q1) results for fiscal 2027. With revenue reaching $9.8 billion and adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $1.45, both exceeding expectations, the company showcased its exceptional execution across various businesses.

The Q1 performance marked a strong start to fiscal 2027, with organic revenue growth of 13.7%. This significant increase reflects underlying market demand and excellent execution across Medtronic's businesses. The three largest businesses, Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM), Cranial & Spinal Technologies (CST), and Surgical, all delivered impressive results this quarter.

Geoff Martha, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Medtronic, emphasized the company's confidence in its long-term growth trajectory. "Our strategic and operational focus is translating into stronger commercial performance and greater consistency," he stated during the webcast. With healthy underlying markets and multiple growth platforms gaining scale, Medtronic is well-positioned to deliver on its FY 2027 targets.

CRM was a standout performer in Q1, with global growth of 15%. This outstanding quarter reflected strength across high-power and low-power therapies, including contributions from Aurora EV-ICD, Micra, and conduction system pacing. CRM's annual revenue exceeded $5.5 billion, solidifying its position as one of Medtronic's largest and most enduring businesses.

The company also highlighted the success of its recent acquisitions, which are contributing to reported growth and strengthening its portfolio for the long term. Thierry Piôton, Chief Financial Officer, noted that these strategic moves will continue to drive growth and expansion for Medtronic in the years ahead.

Micra, a pioneering cardiac pacemaker launched over a decade ago, continues to grow at a healthy double-digit rate, underscoring the lasting impact of meaningful innovation within CRM. The company's commitment to advancing innovation across pacing, defibrillation, and diagnostics is further supported by a strong pipeline and excellent execution from its teams.

CST also delivered impressive results in Q1, with 13% growth, including 14% in the U.S. and 10% internationally. The AiBLE ecosystem continues to resonate with customers as it connects technologies that have traditionally operated in silos. By bringing together AI-driven planning, imaging, navigation, robotics, implants, and outcomes data across the surgical journey, AiBLE helps surgeons make more informed decisions, operate with greater precision, and learn from each and every case.

Medtronic's Q1 performance serves as a testament to its ability to execute on its strategic plan and drive growth in various markets. As the company continues to advance innovation and expand its portfolio, investors and analysts alike will be closely watching for further developments in fiscal 2027 and beyond."
