Reliance Smashes Q2 Records, Unleashing Unprecedented Growth Amid Favorable Market Conditions
Reliance, the leading player in the metals industry, has delivered a phenomenal performance in its second quarter 2026 financial results. As reported by CEO Karla Lewis during the company's recent conference call, Reliance has achieved another excellent quarter, building on the momentum of the first quarter and strong execution by its teams.
Market conditions remained favorable, supported by improving customer activity, extended mill lead times, and strong pricing across Reliance's broad product portfolio. This resulted in the company achieving its second-highest quarterly revenue and record quarterly tons sold, surpassing broader industry shipment trends. The sustained industry outperformance reflects Reliance's scale, diversification across end markets, products, and value-add service offerings, and its position as a partner of choice with domestic mills.
Non-residential construction and market sales remained strong during the second quarter, with meaningful improvements seen in sales to the general manufacturing, aerospace, and semiconductor markets. The initial contributions from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security border wall contract also generated activity exceeding guidance, contributing significantly to Reliance's earnings for the quarter.
Elevated pricing levels, combined with strong execution by Reliance's teams, drove significant growth in profitability, including a 40% year-over-year increase in non-GAAP pre-tax income and non-GAAP earnings per share of $6.27 – the company's highest EPS result since the second quarter of 2023.
Trade policy continues to limit imports, supporting strong domestic pricing further strengthened by extended lead times. Reliance's longstanding domestic mill partnerships ensure reliable material availability, enabling the company to better serve its customers and capture new opportunities.
The company's balance sheet and liquidity remain key competitive advantages, supporting strategic growth investments and ongoing returns to stockholders, as well as disciplined capital deployment. For the full year 2026, Reliance's capital expenditure outlook remains approximately $300 million, with about half allocated to strategic growth investments aimed at enhancing processing capabilities, strengthening customer service, expanding its footprint, and growing volumes in attractive markets.
As customer optimism builds and activity continues to strengthen across infrastructure, including the U.S. border wall project, semiconductor, general manufacturing, and aerospace, Reliance remains exceptionally well-positioned to capitalize on the many meaningful opportunities expected to materialize throughout the second half of 2026 and into next year."
