RPM International Shines in Q1 2027: Record Sales, Adjusted EBITDA, and EPS Despite Market Challenges

RPM International Inc. has reported strong first-quarter results for fiscal 2027, with record sales, adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA), and adjusted earnings per share (EPS). The company's balanced business model has proven resilient in the face of sluggish end markets and temporary operating headwinds.

The Performance Coatings Group and Consumer Group led the way with broad-based growth, more than offsetting softness in the Construction Products Group. Frank Sullivan, Chair and CEO of RPM, noted that the company's associates delivered these results despite challenges, demonstrating the strength of its business model.

RPM also highlighted its cost discipline, leveraging SG&A (selling, general, and administrative expenses) optimization actions to maintain adjusted EBITDA margins consistent with the prior year quarter. The savings helped offset gross margin pressure caused by raw material inflation outpacing pricing and manufacturer's agreement program (MAP) benefits.

Emerging markets have been a key growth driver for RPM, generating more than 20% revenue growth in the quarter. North America delivered solid growth, while Europe was driven primarily by acquisitions. The company's Platform Group structure has been instrumental in capitalizing on emerging market opportunities, with an excellent management team leveraging assets across regions to drive success.

RPM's success in emerging markets is a testament to its ability to adapt and innovate in the face of changing market conditions. By creating a cohesive strategy and operations through the Platform Group, the company has been able to capitalize on opportunities that would have been difficult to pursue under its previous decentralized structure.

The company's outlook remains positive, with expectations for continued pricing and operational improvements to support margins as it faces ongoing inflationary pressures throughout fiscal 2027. RPM's commitment to cost discipline and investment in growth initiatives positions the company for long-term success.
