American Outdoor Brands Powers Ahead Despite Challenging Market Conditions

Despite a tough year marked by tariff uncertainty, uneven retailer ordering patterns, and continued pressure across portions of the consumer marketplace, American Outdoor Brands, Inc. (AOB) has emerged stronger than ever.

In its fourth quarter and full year fiscal 2026 financial results conference call, AOB President and CEO Brian Murphy proudly highlighted the company's achievements in a year that tested its mettle. "I'm very proud of what our team accomplished during fiscal 2026," he said. "We continued to strengthen our brands, expand distribution of our products, optimize our portfolio, and position the company for future growth in fiscal 2027 and beyond."

While AOB's reported net sales declined during fiscal 2026, the underlying performance of its business was much stronger than the reported results suggest. The company attributed a significant portion of the year-over-year decline to approximately $10 million in orders that retailers accelerated into the final two weeks of fiscal 2025. This acceleration, driven by impending tariffs, created a tough comp for AOB's fourth quarter and full year, but also served as a testament to the strength of its most popular and innovative brands.

Excluding the impact of this acceleration, net sales declined just 5% for the year, a solid result given the environment. AOB's key growth brands - BOG, BUBBA, Caldwell, Grilla, and MEAT! Your Maker - delivered positive year-over-year net sales growth and positive POS (point-of-sale) growth for fiscal 2026. This is a great result, because what matters most is what happens when consumers encounter AOB's brands at retail.

The company's POS results tell a story of healthy consumer demand for its products throughout fiscal 2026. AOB delivered POS growth of approximately 4%, representing its fourth consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year POS growth. In the outdoor lifestyle category, POS increased by 7%, and in the shooting sports category, which tends to align more closely with NICS background check results, POS increased by 1%.

Innovation remains one of the most important drivers of AOB's business, according to Murphy. "Innovation remains one of the most important drivers of our business," he said. This focus on innovation has allowed AOB to stay ahead of the competition and meet the evolving needs of its customers.

The company's performance in fiscal 2026 is a testament to its ability to navigate challenging market conditions and come out stronger on the other side. As Murphy noted, "We viewed the 5% decline as nominal and driven by two elements that were persistent throughout the year." These elements - an inventory reset at AOB's largest e-com retailer and extended softness in the Aiming Solutions category within the personal protection market - may have presented challenges, but they did not derail the company's momentum.

American Outdoor Brands is well-positioned for future growth, with a strong portfolio of brands, a focus on innovation, and a commitment to serving its consumers and retail partners. As Murphy proudly declared, "I'm very proud of what our team accomplished during fiscal 2026."
