Ampco-Pittsburgh Sees Strong Demand in Air and Liquid Processing Segment
Ampco-Pittsburgh Corporation, a leading manufacturer of high-performance specialty metal products, has reported strong demand in its Air and Liquid Processing segment for the first quarter of 2026. According to the company's CEO Brett McBrayer, consolidated adjusted EBITDA was $8 million, down from $8.8 million the prior year due to ramp-up costs in Sweden and a weaker mix in its forged and cast engineered products segment.
However, Air and Liquid Processing (ALP) achieved record adjusted EBITDA and record customer orders for the first quarter of 2026. David Anderson, Chief Financial Officer and President of ALP, noted that Q1 revenue increased by 17%, driven by higher revenue in all product lines, with adjusted EBITDA increasing by 52% versus prior year.
The segment's backlog increased $23.5 million or 19% in the quarter as customer orders reached record levels, with a 40% increase over any prior quarter. Anderson attributed this growth to strong demand for custom-engineered products across multiple markets, including data centers fueling demand in the power generation market.
The company's commercial pumps are used in gas turbines, which are seeing strong growth, while it continues to be the dominant supplier of heat exchangers into the growing nuclear market. Additionally, there is still strong demand from the U.S. Navy, and Ampco-Pittsburgh expects this demand to continue as the Navy moves forward with fleet expansion plans.
Ampco-Pittsburgh has already increased manufacturing capacity for its pump product line through equipment installed in 2024, with more capacity expansion planned. The company also received additional manufacturing equipment from the Navy funding program that is expected to arrive at their facility in the second half of 2026 and will position them to meet long-term growth in this market.
The company continues to see significant demand for custom air handlers, particularly in the pharmaceutical market. To meet increasing demand, Ampco-Pittsburgh is focusing on increasing manufacturing capacity by bringing in new equipment, hiring more personnel, and improving manufacturing efficiencies.
