BlackBerry's Q4 2026 Earnings: A Strong Finish to a Record Year
BlackBerry, the Canadian technology company, has reported its fourth-quarter and full fiscal year 2026 results, capping off a record year for the business. In a conference call on April 9th, BlackBerry's management team highlighted the company's strong performance, driven by double-digit top-line growth and improving GAAP profitability.
John Giamatteo, Chief Executive Officer of BlackBerry, stated that the company has completed its turnaround, transforming itself into a profitable growth company. This marks the eighth consecutive quarter of improving GAAP profitability, with QNX delivering another Rule of 40 quarter, rounding out a Rule of 40 year. Revenue for the quarter exceeded $78.7 million, representing 20% year-over-year growth.
The QNX business, which provides software solutions for automotive and emerging markets, has been a key driver of BlackBerry's growth. The company reported a record quarter for royalties and development revenue, with the QNX royalty backlog continuing to grow to approximately $950 million. This backlog provides a line of sight to ongoing multi-year durable revenue growth, making it a rare asset in the tech industry.
Tim Foote, Chief Financial Officer, noted that the company's revenue is driven by design wins and development tool purchases, which can be unevenly spread across quarters. However, with a growing backlog and increasing momentum across various markets, BlackBerry's QNX business is compounding, rather than slowing down.
The conference call also highlighted the importance of not judging QNX's growth on a quarter-to-quarter basis due to the nature of the business. The company emphasized its continued leadership in automotive and growing presence in emerging markets such as physical AI, robotics, industrial, medical, and others.
BlackBerry's strong finish to the fiscal year 2026 marks a significant milestone for the company, demonstrating its ability to deliver consistent growth and profitability. With a record revenue quarter and a growing QNX royalty backlog, BlackBerry is poised for continued success in the tech industry.
