Church & Dwight Surges Ahead: Q1 2026 Earnings Exceed Expectations

Church & Dwight's first quarter 2026 earnings conference call revealed a stellar performance, with the company exceeding expectations across key metrics. Despite the dynamic and volatile macro environment, consumer sentiment remained resilient, supported by strong brands and innovation.

Net sales increased 0.2% ahead of the company's outlook for a decline, while organic sales grew 5%, surpassing the predicted 3%. This growth was driven by volume, demonstrating the company's ability to execute effectively in challenging times. Adjusted gross margin expanded 130 basis points to 46.4%, and adjusted EPS reached $0.95, up 4.4% year-over-year and above the anticipated $0.92.

"We had a fantastic quarter," said Rick Dierker, President and Chief Executive Officer of Church & Dwight. "I want to start off by thanking all of our Church & Dwight employees around the world on executing so well in a volatile environment."

The U.S. consumer business saw organic sales increase 5.4%, driven primarily by volume growth across various brands. The company's strong portfolio, including TheraBreath, Arm & Hammer, Hero, and OxiClean, continued to perform exceptionally well, with innovation and distribution gains playing key roles in their success.

"Our relentless focus on innovation will continue to drive industry-leading growth, distribution gains at shelf, and market share expansion," Dierker emphasized. "We are confident that our new product launches this year will account for half of our organic growth as we innovate in key categories across our portfolio."

The Arm & Hammer brand had another quarter of growth, with laundry hitting record shares across total laundry detergent. The value segment of laundry continues to grow, and the company's newest innovation, Arm & Hammer Baking Soda Fresh, is off to a great start with a 4.9 consumer rating.

Church & Dwight also achieved fantastic results in litter, as Arm & Hammer cat litter consumption grew a robust 6.8%, and share increased 0.4 points to reach 24.6%. Despite the challenges faced by OxiClean, sales growth surpassed expectations throughout the quarter, while Hero and TheraBreath continued to contribute significantly to overall performance.

The company's global e-com business remained a key contributor, with online sales representing approximately 24% of total consumer sales. Overall, this was a high-quality beat driven by strong execution across the business, positioning Church & Dwight for continued success in the future."
