Ellington Financial Accelerates Momentum with Record-Breaking Q2 Results

Ellington Financial, a leading financial institution, has continued its impressive run with outstanding second-quarter 2026 earnings, solidifying its position as a market leader. The company's diversified platform delivered strong performance across all sectors, driving significant gains in GAAP net income, adjusted distributable earnings, and book value per share.

According to Larry Penn, Chief Executive Officer of Ellington Financial, the company generated GAAP net income of $0.43 per share, adjusted distributable earnings (ADE) of $0.60 per share, and an annualized economic return of 13.6% for the quarter. This exceptional performance was attributed to excellent securitization execution, continued outstanding results at Longbridge, solid contributions from other loan origination partners, and strong credit performance across its loan portfolios.

The company's ability to secure attractive financing spreads on its credit lines has also provided a significant tailwind to its results. This, in turn, has enabled Ellington Financial to release capital for redeployment, replace short-term financing with more stable non-mark-to-market funding, and create retained investments that will drive future earnings power.

Ellington's proprietary residential loan portal, which locks in loans from over 40 unique sellers, is now generating a staggering $15 million of loan purchases per day. This is equivalent to an annual pace of around $4 billion, highlighting the company's strong relationships with originators and its ability to capitalize on market opportunities.

Longbridge, another key affiliate, supplied its expanding pipeline of proprietary reverse mortgage loans for investment and securitization during the quarter. This further demonstrates Ellington Financial's commitment to diversifying its loan portfolio and capturing growth in niche markets.

At the heart of Ellington Financial's success lies its well-established focus on proprietary research, data, and modeling capabilities. A full 20% of the company's employees are dedicated to research and technology, with recent advances in AI further enhancing the output of this team. This expertise enables Ellington to make informed decisions regarding loan origination, underwriting standards, risk management, and liquidity control.

The company's credit statistics, presented on slide 14 of its earnings conference call presentation, demonstrate the effectiveness of its research-driven approach. Inception-to-date cumulative realized credit losses were a mere 17 basis points on approximately $20.4 billion of residential mortgage loan fundings and just 39 basis points on more than $2.5 billion of commercial mortgage bridge loan originations.

Ellington Financial's exceptional performance during the quarter is a testament to its ability to execute on its strategy, capitalize on market opportunities, and drive growth through innovation. As the company continues to build momentum, investors can expect further significant gains in book value per share, dividend payments, and overall economic returns."
