Frequency Electronics Revs Up for Growth in 2027
Frequency Electronics, Inc. has officially kicked off its growth phase, with a strong fourth quarter fiscal year 2026 earnings call that laid out a multi-year ascent to a much bigger company.
In the conference call, President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas McClelland emphasized the company's confidence in this upturn in business, citing a record-funded backlog of $111 million as of the end of fiscal year 2026. This marks a significant milestone for Frequency Electronics, surpassing the previously mentioned target of $100 million.
The company's strong backlog is backed by several key data points, including a nearly three times book-to-bill ratio in the fourth quarter. This nonlinear metric indicates high demand and sets the stage for future revenue growth. Fiscal year 2026 also saw the single biggest year of bookings in company history, further solidifying Frequency Electronics' position in its respective markets.
Morrison & D'Angelo note that these significant contract wins will contribute to revenue in fiscal year 2027, with multiple new quarterly revenue records potentially being established. The company is also expected to announce additional meaningful contracts in the upcoming fiscal year, bolstering investor confidence in Frequency Electronics' growth prospects.
Looking ahead over the next two years, there are numerous exciting opportunities on the horizon for Frequency Electronics. On proliferated satellite programs, including sole-source opportunities, each bigger than anything previously won, the company is poised to make a significant impact. In addition to its traditional satellite business, Frequency Electronics is also embedded in multiple classified satellite programs and bidding on several large geostationary orbit programs.
On the defense side, bookings are hitting now for missile systems like Patriot and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, with the company's technology being part of upcoming Golden Dome and SHIELD programs. These opportunities demonstrate Frequency Electronics' multi-domain business capabilities, which extend to space, air, land, and sea.
The company continues to produce atomic clocks for GPS satellites while also developing solutions for contested environments in which GPS is denied. Furthermore, Frequency Electronics is pursuing additional timing applications in naval programs and bidding on important quantum sensor programs today.
These larger total addressable markets include proliferated satellite programs, quantum sensing, space defense, and space exploration, alternative PNT - all multibillion-dollar markets with high projected growth rates. Critically, the company has already won business in these areas, anticipating much more to come.
