Braze Sizzles: Strong Q2 Performance Sets Stage for Continued Growth
Braze, the leading customer experience platform, has delivered a scorching second quarter with impressive revenue growth and operating efficiency improvements. The company's fiscal second-quarter results, announced on September 8th, saw Braze generate $227 million in revenue, representing a 26% year-over-year increase and an 8% rise from the prior quarter.
According to Bill Magnuson, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Braze, the company's strong performance was driven by operating efficiencies, which improved non-GAAP operating margin by over 600 basis points year-over-year. Dollar-based net retention for Braze's large customer cohort (those spending at least $500,000 annually) continued to inflect positively, rising 100 basis points to 112% in the quarter.
One of the key highlights of the quarter was the record second-quarter free cash flow of $22 million. This impressive metric underscores Braze's ability to manage its finances effectively and generate a strong return on investment.
The company's confidence in its performance has led it to raise its revenue guidance for the third quarter and full-year, as well as operating income guidance for the full-year. Braze is also on track to deliver at least 400 basis points of operating margin improvement, aligning with its long-term profitability framework.
Brands are increasingly adopting sophisticated strategies, leveraging AI-driven solutions to tap into first-party data and direct-to-consumer relationships. This shift is reflected in Braze's results, with strong bookings driven by competitive takeaways from legacy marketing clouds and point solutions, as well as a vendor consolidation motion that continues to gain traction.
Net customer additions rose 76 sequentially, up 15% year-over-year, while customers spending at least $500,000 annually increased by 12 sequentially, up 28% year-over-year. Notable new business wins and existing customer expansions include notable brands such as Boots Thailand, Chime, David Jones, Foxtel Group, Insurify, Omaze UK, Property Finder, and Wilson Sporting Goods.
As Braze continues to gain traction, the company's leadership remains optimistic about its future prospects. With a robust pipeline, channel expansion, and customer adoption of AI solutions, Braze is well-positioned for continued growth and success in the highly competitive customer experience platform market.
