Gladstone Capital Corporation Sees Strong Q3 Earnings, Sets Sights on Future Growth

Gladstone Capital Corporation, a leading business development company (BDC), has reported strong earnings for the third quarter of 2026, with net investment income increasing by $800,000 to $11 million. The company's solid performance was driven by higher interest income and a reduced number of non-accrual debt investments.

In a recent conference call, Gladstone Capital's CEO and President, Robert Marcotte, highlighted the company's key achievements in Q3 2026. "We're pleased to report that our fundings last quarter totaled $82 million, including four new investments totaling $67 million and $15 million advances to existing portfolio companies," he stated.

The company's investment income rose by 4.7% to $24.3 million due to higher average assets and a weighted average debt yield of 11.8%. However, other income declined due to the absence of large prepayment fees received in previous quarters. Net management fees decreased by $1.1 million with increased origination fee credits.

Gladstone Capital's portfolio composition remained largely unchanged, with first lien debt and total debt investments accounting for 71% and 91% of the portfolio at cost, respectively. The company's leverage profile was maintained at under 3 times EBITDA, with an average 7% spread over SOFR on new debt investments.

The company's non-accrual debt investments increased to five, with a cost basis of $46 million or $26.7 million, representing 3.1% of the debt investments at fair value. However, both new additions, Lone Star Circuits and eegee's, are controlled investments that have recently undergone senior management changes and are expected to return to earning asset status.

Looking ahead, Gladstone Capital is optimistic about its future prospects. The company has received an anticipated prepayment of $12 million from Imperative, which will eliminate its exposure to the oil and gas sector. Additionally, a larger prepayment this week is expected to reduce PIK interest income in coming quarters.

The company's committed investment pipeline remains strong, with several attractive follow-on investments in existing portfolio companies continuing to scale. Gladstone Capital expects to continue using its floating rate bank facility to support near-term investment activities, maintaining its leverage position at a modest 100% of NAV.

Overall, Gladstone Capital Corporation has demonstrated a solid track record of growth and stability, setting the stage for continued success in the future.
