HPE Delivers Strong Q1 Revenue Growth Despite Market Pressures

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has reported strong double-digit year-over-year revenue growth in its fiscal 2025 first quarter, despite facing market pressures and unprecedented challenges. The company's President and CEO, Antonio Neri, shared his comments on the Q1 performance during a conference call with investors.

"We delivered against our commitments for the quarter," Neri said. "However, we could have executed better." Despite this, HPE achieved strong revenue growth, which was not adequately reflected in their operating profit outlook.

One of the key factors that impacted HPE's profitability was the near-end-quarter Server pricing issue, which resulted in incremental Server margin pressure. Higher discounts due to aggressive pricing competition in the market compounded this issue. Furthermore, HPE's Server margins were further pressured by higher-than-normal AI inventory caused by the rapid transition of demand to next-generation GPUs and related components.

However, Neri assured that HPE has already implemented aggressive actions to address these issues and is seeing positive effects from doing so. Despite expecting continued pressure over the next 1-2 quarters, HPE remains optimistic about its future prospects.

Neri also addressed the recent decision of the Department of Justice (DOJ) to file a lawsuit seeking to block HPE's proposed acquisition of Juniper Networks. The DOJ's analysis of the market is fundamentally flawed, according to Neri, who believes that this transaction will positively change the dynamics in the networking market by enhancing competition.

The court has set a trial date of July 9, but HPE remains fully committed to the transaction and expects to be able to close it before the end of fiscal 2025. The company also expects to deliver at least $450 million in gross annual run rate synergies to shareholders within 3 years of the deal closing.

Looking ahead, HPE sees additional opportunities to take incremental corporate cost actions to further strengthen its financial profile. With this commitment, the company remains focused on delivering strong revenue growth and improving profitability despite market pressures."
