Mondelez International Delivers Strong Q1 2025 Results Despite External Volatility

Mondelez International, a global snacking powerhouse, has announced its first quarter 2025 results, showcasing solid growth amidst significant external volatility. In a conference call on April 29, 2025, the company's management highlighted its commitment to delivering against its strategic agenda and staying agile in the challenging macro environment.

According to Dirk Van de Put, Chairman and CEO of Mondelez International, the company delivered "solid results for the first quarter driven by sound execution despite significant external volatility." The top line grew 3.1% behind strong pricing execution across its chocolate business due to unprecedented input costs for cocoa. This growth was driven by a successful implementation of planned pricing across many key markets with minimal disruption.

The company's snacking categories, including biscuits and chocolate, continued to show solid category value growth in both Europe and emerging markets. Despite overall declining consumer confidence, loyalty to Mondelez' strong brands like Oreo, Chips Ahoy!, and Ritz remained solid, with the investment in price pack architecture helping to drive continued share gains.

Mondelez International also generated $800 million in free cash flow during the quarter, demonstrating its ability to manage costs effectively. The company's adjusted gross profit was significantly impacted by record cocoa costs, which consequently affected earnings per share (EPS).

"We remain committed to delivering against our strategic agenda, focusing on the controllables and staying agile in this challenging macro environment," said Dirk Van de Put.

The company's progress against its strategic growth agenda was highlighted during the conference call. Mondelez International is reinvesting in its brands, expanding distribution, strengthening marketing and sales capabilities, and scaling its commitment to sustainability.

As noted by Luca Zaramella, CFO of Mondelez International, "Our iconic global brands, including Oreo and Cadbury Dairy Milk continue to drive creative on-trend activations that resonate strongly with consumers and help strengthen our strategic partnerships with retailers."
