NextNav Achieves Key Milestone in FCC Process, Reinforcing National Security Priority
NextNav, a leading provider of Precise Location Technology (PNT), has made significant progress in its efforts to advance critical national security priorities through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) process. In a recent conference call, company executives provided an update on the status of NextNav's FCC-related initiatives and highlighted the importance of addressing the nation's reliance on GPS.
According to Mariam Sorond, CEO of NextNav, the FCC has formally sent a draft Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) focused on PNT technologies and solutions to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). This development represents a critical step in the process and underscores the FCC's focus on addressing national security concerns related to GPS.
Sorond emphasized that this progress is consistent with her previous quarters' confidence regarding the FCC's direction. The NextNav team has worked closely with the FCC, demonstrating extraordinary momentum under the current administration. This achievement marks significant validation of NextNav's solution to a critical national security priority at a time of heightened global risk.
The CEO highlighted that NextNav plays an essential role in a system of systems framework combining multiple terrestrial and space-based capabilities to build redundancy and resiliency across America's critical infrastructure. However, this redundancy exists today for adversaries, such as Russia and China, but not for the United States. NextNav's proposed solution is unique within this framework, requiring capabilities that only NextNav can provide.
The anticipated NPRM is supported by a well-developed and complete record, according to Sorond. While the exact timing of the process remains outside of their control, NextNav applauds the administration and Chairman Carr for their actionable leadership on this issue.
As the national conversation around resilience and critical infrastructure expands, NextNav is increasingly contributing to industry and policy leadership. CEO Mariam Sorond has joined the CTIA Board of Directors, participating in her first board meeting alongside dynamic leaders. She looks forward to advancing the association's mission and expanding 5G network capabilities that strengthen America's national security infrastructure.
