NIO Delivers Record-Breaking Q1 Results, Solidifies Position as China's Leading EV Brand

NIO Inc. has reported a stellar first quarter (Q1) 2025 earnings performance, with deliveries of its smart electric vehicles (EVs) reaching an all-time high of 42,094 units, marking a 4.1% year-over-year increase.
According to Bin Li, the company's Founder, Chairman of the Board and CEO, the Q1 results demonstrate a solid start to the year, with deliveries picking up pace month-over-month since Q2 last year. The growth is attributed to strong demand for NIO's ET9 executive flagship van, which has surpassed BMW 7 Series and Audi A8 sales in China within its first four delivery months.
"We are pleased with our Q1 performance," said Li during the conference call. "Our cost reduction efforts have yielded positive results, with year-over-year growth in both vehicle gross margin and overall gross margin."
NIO's financials show a significant improvement on all fronts, with the company continuing its efforts to reduce costs across various areas. The increased efficiency is reflected in higher margins for both vehicles and overall operations.
On top of this success, NIO has also made strides in product innovation. The company has introduced new models such as the ES6, 86, and 85P, which have been well-received by consumers. These upgraded versions offer improved perceived value and cost efficiency, aligning with current market trends.
The ONVO brand, a subsidiary of NIO, has also seen significant improvements since April. Adjustments to operational and organizational structure have led to enhanced productivity and sales force efficiency, shifting the brand towards a positive cycle of awareness and product reputation.
ONVO's new L90 flagship SUV made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show, showcasing class-leading space, low energy consumption, extensive charging networks, and smart driving capabilities. This model will be launched in Q3 and is expected to further boost ONVO's sales.
NIO has also been advancing in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation, deploying its Smart Driving Chip NS931 in flagship models such as ES6, EC6, ET5, and ET5T. These vehicles are equipped with NIO's proprietary Sky OS vehicle operating system and intelligent TSE system.
Looking ahead to Q2, NIO expects total deliveries between 72,000 and 75,000 units, representing a year-over-year growth of 25.5% to 30.7%. This performance solidifies the company's position as China's leading EV brand, positioning itself for continued success in the competitive market.
