Ocean Engineering Leader Anchors Strong Q1 Performance Amid Geopolitical Turbulence
Oilfield services company Oceaneering International Inc has navigated the challenges of a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape to deliver strong first-quarter 2026 results, reinforcing its confidence in meeting full-year guidance.
The Houston-based company reported consolidated revenue and adjusted EBITDA that matched expectations, with significant year-over-year growth in its Aerospace and Defense Technologies (ADTECH) segment. Despite softer energy sector activity, Subsea Robotics (SSR) and manufactured products both delivered year-over-year increases in revenue, demonstrating the resilience of Oceaneering's portfolio.
"We're pleased with our first quarter results," said Rod Larson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Oceaneering. "This positions us well to deliver on our full-year guidance."
Oceaneering secured a healthy order intake of approximately $1 billion in the first quarter, with SSR awards totaling around $300 million, including projects extending to 2031. The company also progressed on the technology front, introducing its next-generation electric work class ROV, Momentum, which delivers improvements in supervised autonomy, endurance, and reliability.
"We continue to develop our autonomous systems portfolio, including our Freedom platform," added Larson. "One commercial unit is currently operating in West Africa, and we are moving towards testing and customer demonstration of a specialized Freedom vehicle for the Defense Innovation Unit."
The company's ADTECH segment delivered significant year-over-year revenue growth, driven by steady demand across its defense portfolio. Oceaneering also celebrated milestones such as delivering the U.S. Navy's submarine rescue diving and recompression system following a multi-year complex rebuild and recertification.
"Beyond our subsea markets, we are proud to have supported NASA's Artemis program," said Larson. "The successful launch and return of Artemis II showcased this work, incorporating our advanced products and technologies."
Oceaneering also highlighted its commitment to the safety and well-being of its employees in regions affected by conflict. The company has enacted established protocols and is working closely with customers and partners to manage operational impacts.
