Royal Gold Inc.: A Quarter of Record-Breaking Growth and Strategic Portfolio Optimization
Royal Gold, Inc., a leading gold-focused royalty and streaming company, has announced its second quarter 2026 results, which demonstrate a significant scale-up in the company's business.
The Q2 2026 results show revenue of $451 million, operating cash flow of $335 million, and earnings of $236 million, representing year-over-year increases of 115%, 119%, and 79%, respectively. This strong performance underscores the material change in scale that has taken place since 2025.
According to William Heissenbuttel, President and CEO, "Our diversified portfolio produced revenue from a variety of properties, with no one asset contributing more than 13% of revenue, and only two assets generating more than 10% of revenue." This diversity is a deliberate strategy to reduce asset concentration risk, which was a key driver for the company's acquisitions in 2025. As Heissenbuttel noted, "We are pleased to see this reflected in our portfolio, which is now one of the most diversified in the sector."
The company remains gold-focused, with gold contributing 76% of total revenue for the quarter. Adjusted EBITDA margin remained high at 83%, reflecting low and stable cash G&A. Royal Gold paid dividends of $40 million to shareholders in the quarter, a 6% increase over last year.
The company's active share buyback program saw the repurchase and cancellation of 147,000 shares for a total cost of $30 million. As discussed on previous quarterly calls, this program is used as an additional capital allocation tool, taking into account business development pipeline, balance sheet, regular dividend, and equity valuation considerations.
A notable transaction during the quarter was the announcement of a restructuring of ownership in the Hod Maden joint venture, reducing the company's equity interest from 30% to 15% in return for additional royalty interests. While this adjustment reduces exposure to operating and capital cost risks, it also highlights the company's ongoing efforts to optimize its portfolio.
With total available liquidity of $1.2 billion at the end of the quarter, Royal Gold continues to prioritize strategic investments, share buybacks, dividend payments, and debt reduction. As Heissenbuttel emphasized, "We remain flexible in our capital deployment priorities, ensuring that we balance opportunities for accretive deployments over the long term."
The results demonstrate Royal Gold's commitment to delivering strong performance while prudently managing its portfolio and resources.
