South Bow's Resilience: A Year of Financial Discipline and Growth Ambitions
South Bow, a leading energy company, has emerged from a challenging year with its financial discipline and growth ambitions intact. The company delivered slightly ahead of expectations in 2025, while advancing its first growth initiative to completion and maintaining a strong occupational safety record.
Bevin Wirzba, President and Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the importance of safety during the fourth quarter and year-end earnings call on March 6th. "Safety remains the foundation of everything we do," he emphasized, citing the company's so-strong occupational safety record even under challenging conditions. This commitment to safety is a testament to the resilience of South Bow's business.
The company also made significant progress on its Milepost 171 remedial actions, prioritizing system integrity and working towards returning Keystone to baseline operations. Richard Prior, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, will speak to this aspect shortly.
South Bow's financial discipline has enabled it to deliver strong results in 2025, supported by highly contracted and predictable cash flows. This discipline is reflected in the company's capital allocation priorities, which have allowed it to invest in growth while maintaining a strong balance sheet.
The company's growth ambitions are multifaceted, with a combination of organic opportunities leveraging existing infrastructure to support anticipated crude oil production growth in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin, as well as inorganic opportunities diversifying and enhancing the competitiveness of its base business. With the policy environment becoming more constructive in North America, South Bow believes Canada has a tremendous opportunity to grow production and add incremental egress in the coming years.
The company's strategy is centered around providing customer-led solutions that meet their needs while aligning with capital allocation principles and risk preferences. This approach is exemplified by the Blackrod Connection Project, which builds on existing infrastructure and enables South Bow to safely and reliably move Canadian crude to a desirable market at a competitive toll.
Another example of this strategy is the Prairie Connector Project, currently in its early stages, which would provide firm transportation service from Hardisty, Alberta, leveraging and optimizing South Bow's pre-invested infrastructure. An open season to determine commercial interest is underway, with the company looking forward to discussing this potential solution further in the future.
South Bow's commitment to financial discipline and growth ambitions has set it on a path towards a promising future, driven by its resilience and strategic approach to the energy sector.
