Werner Enterprises Delivers 24% Revenue Growth and 80 Basis Points of Adjusted Operating Margin Expansion in Second Quarter
Werner Enterprises, a leading transportation and logistics company, has reported impressive results for its second quarter of 2026. In a recent conference call, the company's executives highlighted key achievements that demonstrate their strategic direction and operational efficiency.
According to Derek Leathers, Chairman and CEO, Werner delivered 24% revenue growth and 80 basis points of adjusted operating margin expansion in Q2 2026. This significant improvement is attributed to the company's focus on safety, streamlined operations, technology investments, and portfolio expansion into new markets. The structural capacity attrition in the industry, driven by intensified regulatory pressure and reduced ELD options, has played a crucial role in Werner's success.
Chris Wikoff, Executive Vice President, CFO, and Treasurer, noted that the company's core technology initiatives continue to progress. 100% of Werner's legacy freight is now being ingested into its single EDGE TMS platform, creating better visibility for associates, expanding solutions for customers, and establishing a foundation for increased automation. The company has also seen measurable benefits from AI and automated workflows across various areas, including shipment optimization, load planning, maintenance, safety, and driver recruiting.
Werner's focus on scaling successful use cases across the enterprise is expected to drive further operational efficiencies and structural cost savings throughout the remainder of this year and into 2027. The company's restructuring plan and addition of FirstFleet to its dedicated business have given them a clear line of sight to sustained earnings growth, validating their strategic direction.
The conference call also highlighted Werner's recent successes in one-way truckload, where revenue per truck per week growth has been the strongest in over a decade. This is attributed to exceptional productivity improvement and double-digit increases in revenue per total mile. The company has also been securing upper single to double-digit contractual increases in one-way bids, in addition to ongoing yield management within the portfolio.
These results demonstrate Werner's ability to anticipate industry shifts, execute restructuring plans, and deliver strong financial performance. As the company moves into the second half of the year, they are increasingly confident in their ability to maximize fleet utilization and deliver a more pronounced step-up in their financial results.
