Willdan Group Powers Ahead in Q1 2026 with 10% Revenue Growth and Acquisition of Burton Energy Group
The Willdan Group, a leading provider of management consulting services to utilities and municipalities, announced strong financial results for its first quarter fiscal year 2026. According to Mike Bieber, President and Chief Executive Officer, the company had a solid start to the year, with contract revenue growing 10% and net revenue increasing 17% year-over-year.
Notably, Willdan's adjusted EBITDA rose by a significant 35% in Q1 2026 compared to the same period last year. This momentum is expected to continue over the next few quarters, providing improved visibility for 2026.
In addition to its organic growth, Willdan made a strategic move this week with the acquisition of Burton Energy Group, a trusted advisor serving mainly Fortune 500 customers throughout the U.S. The deal brings highly complementary capabilities, including energy management, efficiency, and procurement services. Burton's expertise is expected to enhance Willdan's offerings in energy cost management and procurement, deepen relationships with large enterprise clients, and add recurring revenue.
On a pro forma basis, incorporating the acquisition of Burton, commercial revenue is now expected to account for approximately 25% of Willdan's business this year. This diversification has contributed to higher margins and reset long-term margin targets, according to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Kim Early.
The addition of Burton's services also expands Willdan's presence in the Southeastern and Midwestern states, filling gaps in its current footprint. With permanent offices now established in 26 of the 50 U.S. states, plus a presence in Puerto Rico and Canada, Willdan has achieved national reach.
As described by Bieber, "Willdan remains at the center of several long-term energy trends that are driving growth." The company's solid Q1 performance, coupled with its strategic acquisition of Burton Energy Group, positions it for continued success in 2026 and beyond. Willdan's commitment to innovation, customer service, and expansion into new markets will likely remain key drivers of its growth story.
