Aeroméxico Soars to New Heights: Q2 2026 Results Exceed Expectations
Aeroméxico, one of the leading airlines in Mexico, has just released its quarterly earnings for the second quarter of 2026, and the numbers are impressive. Despite high and volatile jet fuel prices and uncertainty regarding the impact of the World Cup on traffic, the company's revenue performance was strong, with traffic growing 10.5% year-over-year during the quarter.
In a call to investors and analysts on July 14th, Andrés Conesa, Chief Executive Officer of Aeroméxico, praised his team for their efforts and commitment, which resulted in achieving financial results for the second Q generally in line with the guidance provided last April. Revenue performance was indeed strong, with traffic growing at a remarkable rate, and the company even achieved record revenues in both June and the second quarter overall.
The company's ability to respond quickly to changing market conditions continues to be one of its key competitive advantages. In anticipation of lower corporate traffic in June around the dates where Mexico's national team played, Aeroméxico adjusted its network, a strategy that proved successful and allowed them to avoid some unprofitable flying. Capacity increased 2% year-over-year during the second quarter, in line with their guidance.
Aeroméxico also continued to support growth across its international network, launching two new long-haul routes - Mexico City to Barcelona and Monterrey to Paris - which are off to a strong start. The company operated dozens of charter flights connecting Mexico and the United States to transport several national soccer teams during the World Cup.
The premium customer base remains a key differentiator of Aeroméxico's commercial strategy, with premium revenue mix reaching 43%, up one percentage point year-over-year and 17 percentage points compared to 2019. This performance reflects the continued strength of their premium value proposition, supported by continued investments to enhance their customer experience and build deeper relationships with their clients.
Notably, despite fare increases driven by higher fuel costs, Aeroméxico's customers did not trade down within the first-class structure, underscoring the resilience of demand for their premium offering. As of the end of June, Aeroméxico led all global full-service carriers in on-time performance, according to Cirium, positioning them well to achieve recognition as World's Best On-Time Airline for the third consecutive year.
