Avery Dennison Delivers Strong Q2 Results Amidst Volatility
Avery Dennison, a leading global materials science company, has reported strong second-quarter 2026 earnings, with organic sales growth accelerating to 8% year-over-year. The company's President and Chief Executive Officer, Deon Stander, highlighted the resilience of Avery Dennison's portfolio in delivering balanced sales growth across both base and high-value categories.
In a conference call discussing the quarterly results, Deon emphasized that the company's performance demonstrated its ability to drive earnings growth and business resiliency despite a volatile and inflationary cost backdrop. The company's focus on innovation and service-led differentiation, commercial and operational agility, and strong free cash flow generation were key drivers of this success.
The Materials Group delivered organic sales growth of approximately 10%, driven by high single-digit volume mix growth and low double-digit pricing realization as the company began to pass on cost inflation. This performance was led by specialty and durable labels, as well as Intelligent Labels, which grew mid-single digits year-over-year. Base categories also grew low double digits, driven by underlying market growth, continued share gains, and customer pre-buys.
The Label Materials business saw prolonged customer pre-buying due to accelerating raw material inflation and supply concerns in Europe and parts of Asia. While it is difficult to predict the timing of when this unwind will happen, Avery Dennison anticipates the majority of it occurring in the third quarter with a smaller carryover into Q4.
From a profitability perspective, Materials Group adjusted EBITDA was strong, growing high teens with margins expanding compared to prior year. In contrast, the Solutions Group experienced organic sales growth of 3%, with solid low double-digit growth across both high-value categories and base solutions.
Avery Dennison's performance this quarter further demonstrated the company's commitment to driving earnings growth and business resiliency through its proven playbook. The company continues to invest in innovation, execute commercial and operational agility, and generate strong free cash flow, while maintaining a healthy balance sheet.
The quarterly results also highlighted Avery Dennison's ability to navigate volatility, with the company executing pricing actions to mitigate inflationary pressures and continuing to pass on costs to customers. This strategy has enabled the company to maintain its margins despite rising costs.
Avery Dennison's strong Q2 results underscore the company's position as a leader in the materials science industry, with a proven track record of delivering earnings growth and business resiliency despite market challenges. As the company continues to execute its strategic priorities, investors can expect Avery Dennison to remain a key player in the industry, driving innovation and generating strong returns on investment.
