Horizon Aircraft Soars into Fiscal 2027 with Breakthroughs in X7 Development
New Horizon Aircraft's fiscal first quarter of 2027 has been marked by significant advancements in the development of its revolutionary Cavorite X7 demonstrator aircraft. In a recent conference call, company executives provided an update on the progress made during this period.
According to Brandon Robinson, CEO of New Horizon Aircraft, the company entered its fiscal 2027 with clear priorities, including turning the validated design of the X7 into a full-scale aircraft ready for formal testing by spring 2027. "We have advanced the work on the structure, the flight controls, and other systems that will define the X7 demonstrator," Robinson explained.
The X7 is designed to combine the flexibility of vertical takeoff and landing with the speed, range, and efficiency of conventional wing-borne flight. As a hybrid electric aircraft, it does not require any ground charging infrastructure, making it an attractive option for various missions such as regional transport, emergency response, cargo, and military operations.
One of the key highlights of this quarter is the growth of New Horizon Aircraft's team from 30 people to over 65 today, with more than 85 FTEs, including external contractors. This expansion has fueled significant progress across all major activities, allowing the company to invest in systems and engineering resources needed for an aircraft design with certification in mind.
The full-scale demonstrator aircraft is being designed and built with a level of sophistication that aims to facilitate certification. By spending more attention up front, New Horizon Aircraft is investing in a much shorter and more efficient certification process later.
The company has also selected BETA Technologies' flight control computers and customized fly-by-wire software for the X7. This collaboration will bring a platform built specifically for modern VTOL aircraft that has flown over 200,000 miles. Additionally, the company is applying the flight dynamics and control model completed by Marshall Aerospace to the aircraft's development.
New Horizon Aircraft's current target is to complete the demonstrator around the end of the first calendar quarter of 2027 and begin testing shortly thereafter. The initial phase will include ground runs, taxi work, and progressively higher speed taxi testing, followed by a planned flight test sequence that will begin with conventional takeoff and landing before advancing forward to vertical operations.
The company's progress in developing the X7 has been significant, and its collaboration with proven aerospace partners has served critical objectives. As New Horizon Aircraft continues to push the boundaries of innovation, it is clear that fiscal 2027 will be a year of great promise for this pioneering aviation company.
