Bladex Hits Record Highs Across Multiple Areas in Q2 2026

Bladex, a leading financial institution, has announced its record-breaking results for the second quarter of 2026. The company's Chief Executive Officer, Jorge Salas, proudly shared the key highlights during the earnings conference call on July 28th.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Salas emphasized that Bladex is thrilled with its performance this quarter, reaching record levels across several areas of the business. This achievement marks a significant milestone in translating the company's strategic vision into tangible results. The commercial portfolio reached $13 billion, up 8% from March and 20% year-over-year, while loans and contingencies also closed at new heights.

The funding base has been further strengthened with deposits reaching a record of $7.9 billion, an 8% sequential increase and 20% since December. This diversified deposit base provides a solid foundation for balance sheet growth. Net interest income reached another new high, increasing 4%, supported by higher average loan balances and disciplined balance sheet management.

However, net interest margin declined by 10 basis points to 2.24%, mainly reflecting higher average liquidity and continued competitive pressures on spreads. This remains consistent with the environment discussed during the first quarter call. Non-interest income is perhaps the biggest highlight of the quarter, reaching a record $25 million for the quarter, up 86% from the first quarter.

This significant progress marks meaningful growth in making Bladex's earnings less dependent on interest margins. The loan syndications team had one of the best quarters ever, while client derivative business is also starting to gain traction in line with plan. Provisions increased during the quarter, mainly as a result of strong portfolio growth and prudent risk management.

Despite these factors, asset quality remains sound. Net income reached a record $66.5 million, up 18% from the first quarter, which translates into a return on equity of 16.4%. The Tier 1 capital ratio closed the quarter at 16.6%, still comfortably above the target and providing capacity to continue supporting disciplined growth.

Bladex's CFO, Annette, took over to provide a more detailed review of the financial results, highlighting several key balance sheet and revenue metrics that reached new highs during the second quarter. The company's excellent performance is a testament to its ability to put capital to work, broaden its revenue base, and improve profitability and efficiency despite continued pressure on margins.
