Grainger Fires on All Cylinders: Q2 2026 Sees Strong Growth, Profitability

The W.W. Grainger second quarter 2026 earnings conference call highlighted the company's continued momentum in a dynamic market environment. Despite ongoing uncertainty, Grainger delivered strong performance by executing well and delivering exceptional service to customers.

"Building on our momentum from the start of the year, we delivered strong performance in the second quarter," said D.G. Macpherson, Chairman and CEO, during the call. "Sales remained strong in both the High-Touch and Endless Assortment segments, and core operating profitability was in line with expectations."

Grainger's focus on delivering exceptional service to customers is driving growth across both segments. The company is seeing continued strength in demand environment, with most end markets showing acceleration. As Mr. Macpherson noted, "We're helping them manage inventory in ways that fit their specific needs, and that is contributing to strong year-over-year growth at these locations."

The company's national accounts are also performing well, with solid growth seen in both the U.S. and Canada. In Canada, Grainger has made significant progress improving service, resetting its sales force, and revamping its website, which has driven strong sales growth and operating margin recovery to the highest levels seen in nearly a decade.

Grainger's financial results for Q2 2026 were equally impressive. The company reported sales of $10.3% on a daily organic constant currency basis, with operating margin coming in at 16.1%. Diluted EPS finished the quarter up over 20%, inclusive of the impact of IEEPA tariff refunds recognized in the period.

Operating cash flow came in at $444 million, which allowed Grainger to return a total of $341 million to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases. The company is also excited about its new Northwest distribution center in Oregon, which began outbound operations in July. This technology-enabled building gives Grainger another way to get more products closer to customers when they need them.

The strong performance in Q2 2026 underscores Grainger's commitment to executing well and delivering exceptional service to customers. As the company continues to navigate a dynamic market environment, its focus on operational execution, customer service, and innovation will undoubtedly drive continued growth and profitability."
