Opal Fuels Sees Strong Growth Despite Modest RNG Production

Opal Fuels, a leading provider of renewable fuels and fueling station services, has reported solid second quarter financial results despite modest RNG production. According to the company's recent conference call transcript, Opal Fuels delivered adjusted EBITDA of $23.1 million, increasing 40% from the same period in 2025.

The growth was driven by a combination of factors, including 45Z production tax credits, fuel station services segment, and G&A cost savings. Despite flat RIN pricing in the second quarter compared to last year, Opal Fuels maintained its annual guidance, indicating confidence in the stability of its cash flows and long-term growth prospects.

One of the key areas of focus for the company is capturing opportunities to grow volumes through existing facilities without significant capital investments. Adam Comora, Co-CEO of Opal Fuels, noted that operating leverage on existing facilities is high, with almost all incremental production and revenues flowing down to EBITDA. The company has identified initiatives such as using technology to improve gas collection and tuning of the well fields as potential opportunities for growth.

Opal Fuels' confidence in its long-term growth prospects is also driven by the increasing bipartisan support for programs like the Production Tax Credit and Investment Tax Credit. These programs seek to accelerate the growth and benefits of capturing biogas or waste in place energy and using it productively. The company generates significant annual discretionary free cash flow, approximately $0.30 per share over the last 12 months, which is being reinvested to lift the value of Opal.

Kazi Hasan, Chief Financial Officer of Opal Fuels, will discuss capital expenditures and capital allocation plans for new RNG facilities and fueling station projects later in the conference call. However, Adam Comora highlighted that upstream segment growth over the next 12 to 24 months is anticipated to be driven by incremental volumes from existing assets and the completion of projects in construction.

Opal Fuels' performance in the second quarter demonstrates its ability to adapt to changing market conditions while maintaining a strong focus on growth and expansion. As the company continues to execute on its growth strategy, investors will be watching closely for signs of progress and potential opportunities for returns.
