Portland General Electric Delivers Strong Q2 Performance with Continued Execution Across Strategic Priorities

Portland General Electric (PGE) has reported a strong second-quarter performance, delivering on its strategic priorities and reaffirming its full-year earnings guidance. The company's President and CEO, Maria Pope, highlighted the key drivers of PGE's success during a recent conference call.

"The second quarter was marked by continued execution across our strategic priorities," said Pope. "Strong industrial demand growth of 11% when compared to second quarter of last year, advancement of key proceedings, disciplined cost management, and continued progress on resource planning."

PGE's financial results for the quarter were also impressive, with GAAP net income of $68 million or $0.59 per diluted share, and non-GAAP net income of $74 million or $0.64 per diluted share. The company's non-GAAP results excluded business transformation, optimization, and acquisition-related expenses, which are not reflective of ongoing operational performance.

One of the key highlights of PGE's Q2 performance was its industrial demand growth, which remains an important element of the company's long-term outlook. Today, PGE serves 12 different data center customers, which make up approximately one-third of its total industrial usage. Total industrial load growth was approximately 10% compounded annually over the last five years, and the company continues to see strong demand from technology, semiconductor, and data center customers.

Pope also highlighted the importance of affordability in PGE's service area, noting that the company has taken proactive steps to address customer cost pressures and mitigate stranded asset cost risk. The OPUC issued a final order approving PGE's new large load tariff effective in July, raising average prices approximately 30% for data centers while lowering rates for all other customers.

The large load tariff creates greater certainty for large load customers by providing a clear pricing framework that supports investment decisions and continued economic development across the region. This is particularly important for PGE's data center customers, which are expected to drive new system investments in the coming years.

According to Pope, PGE's affordability efforts have been recognized as best-in-class by industry experts, with the company being named one of the most customer-friendly utilities in the country. This recognition is a testament to PGE's commitment to putting customers first and delivering value to its communities.

Pope also highlighted the importance of resource planning and disciplined cost management in PGE's Q2 performance. The company continues to execute across its financial and operational priorities, with a focus on driving costs out of the business while investing in new system investments that support economic development across the region.
