Weibo Sees Modest Growth in Q1 2026 Despite Strategic Shifts
Weibo, China's leading social media platform, has reported a modest growth in its first quarter 2026 financial results despite strategic shifts in its product and monetization strategy.
According to Gaofei Wang, Chief Executive Officer of Weibo, the company's user base continued to grow with monthly active users reaching 562 million and average DAUs (Daily Active Users) reaching 254 million. However, the MAU (Monthly Active Users) experienced a modest decline on both a year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter basis due to a strategic focus on enhancing user experience and driving user retention.
The company's total revenue reached $421.3 million US, an increase of 6% year-over-year, with ad revenues reaching $369.8 million, an increase of 9% year-over-year. The non-GAAP operating income for the quarter reached $119.8 million, representing a non-GAAP operating margin of 28%.
In terms of key development in the first quarter, Weibo's CEO highlighted three areas: user growth and engagement, content ecosystem competitiveness, and monetization. On user growth and engagement, Wang emphasized that the company would focus on improving user retention and building a high-quality, highly engaged, and sustainable user growth framework.
The information feed product continued to optimize its experience, leveraging Weibo's social network and hot trend discussion advantages while further enhancing the distribution capabilities of Weibo's distinctive native content. The strategy also focused on establishing a more stable and consistent content consumption experience, continuing to strengthen users' trust in the information feed.
In the first quarter, Weibo centered on several optimization initiatives aimed at balancing the distribution of social content, trending topics, and vertical interest-based content. This approach led to improved performance from March, with social interaction-type users experiencing enhanced engagement and longer times spent using the platform's homepage feed.
Overall, while Weibo reported modest growth in Q1 2026, the company's strategic shifts in product and monetization strategy suggest a focus on long-term sustainability and user experience improvement.
