Aeluma Accelerates Commercialization in High-Growth AI Datacom Market

Aeluma, a leading provider of high-performance photonics solutions, has accelerated its commercialization efforts in the rapidly growing AI datacom market. According to the company's Q4 2026 earnings conference call transcript, Aeluma is capitalizing on the $1.8 trillion data center CapEx investments expected by 2030, with approximately 10%-15% allocated for photonics.

As highlighted in the presentation, Aeluma has built its technology platform to meet this scale, combining high-performance materials with mass market microelectronics manufacturing using large diameter non-indium phosphide substrates. The company has prioritized resources to accelerate development and commercialization of its high-speed photodetectors and quantum dot lasers for various data center connectivity applications.

Unlike traditional photonics components that rely on indium phosphide substrates, Aeluma's technologies use non-indium phosphide substrates, ranging in size from 150 millimeter to 200 millimeter or more. This approach eliminates the bottleneck associated with indium phosphide substrates and enables high-volume manufacturing and CMOS wafer scale integration.

Aeluma has made significant progress with customers evaluating its differentiated photonics platform, resulting in the development of its Lynx S Series photodetectors targeting data rates from a few gigabits per second to 64 gigabits per second. The company believes these applications represent a substantial volume opportunity for deployment in 2028 through 2030.

To support fast and narrow interconnects, Aeluma is developing its Lynx F Series photodetectors for scale-out applications at speeds of 200 gigabits per second per lane and potentially 400 gigabits per second per lane. The non-dilutive government funding secured by the company has played a crucial role in advancing its technology while establishing potential long-term relationships with key customers, including the U.S. Navy.

Aeluma's focus on commercializing its high-speed photodetectors positions it well to capture opportunities in the growing AI datacom market, which is expected to accelerate over the next several years. By prioritizing resources for commercialization and leveraging non-dilutive government funding, Aeluma aims to establish itself as a leader in this high-growth market.
