Aeroméxico Flies High Despite Fuel Volatility: Delivering Strong Q3 Results
Aeroméxico has once again demonstrated its resilience and unique strengths in a challenging fuel cost environment, delivering strong third-quarter results. According to the company's latest conference call transcript, Aeroméxico's Chief Executive Officer Andrés Conesa emphasized that the quarter's performance reflects significant progress made in recent years to build a stronger and more flexible company.
In a quarter marked by higher-than-expected and volatile fuel prices, delivering an EBIT margin of 12% is a testament to the strength of Aeroméxico's business model. This achievement demonstrates the company's ability to capture premium revenues while executing disciplined cost control measures. The strong EBIT margin was supported by record quarterly revenue that came in above the midpoint of the June guidance range.
Aeroméxico's demand remained healthy, with a successful peak season extending through September and delivering outstanding load factors. Premium revenue accounted for 42% of total revenue, up 1 percentage point year-over-year, while loyalty penetration reached 40%, an 8-point increase versus last year. The company also saw strong contributions from its premium products and loyalty programs.
Total revenue grew 14% year-over-year, driven by premium and other revenue streams, including cargo and loyalty. Capacity increased by around 1% year-over-year in the third quarter, with a clear improvement in load factors seen as the temporary negative impact of the World Cup normalized. Forward bookings remain strong, supporting a constructive outlook for the remainder of the year.
While fuel costs increased by approximately $170 million year-over-year, Aeroméxico's revenue growth was not enough to offset the combined increase in fuel and non-fuel costs. However, the company's ability to navigate this challenging environment while maintaining strong cost control demonstrates its resilience and unique strengths.
