American Battery Technology Company Closes the Loop on Sustainability with Record-Breaking Q4 2026 Results


The American Battery Technology Company has made significant strides towards creating a closed-loop supply chain for sustainable battery production, and its Q4 2026 results demonstrate remarkable growth in revenue and profitability. In a recent conference call, the company's CEO and CTO, Ryan Melsert, highlighted the importance of introducing a domestic closed-loop supply chain for critical minerals, which is currently lacking in the US.

By implementing three technology sets – lithium-ion battery recycling, mineral resource development through a lithium mine, and internal technologies for processing lithium-bearing claystone into battery-grade lithium hydroxide – the company aims to enable this closed-loop infrastructure within the United States. The past year has seen substantial growth in operations at its first battery recycling facility, resulting in an over 400% increase in revenue to $21.7 million.

This significant jump in revenue is attributed to achieving economies of scale and implementing operational efficiencies throughout the facility. Furthermore, on a cash basis, the company decreased cash spend and operations for this plant by about 16%, despite substantially increasing throughput. This has led to an adjusted gross profit of $1.7 million over the past year, compared to a loss of $6.2 million in the previous year.

The implementation of operational efficiencies at its first recycling facility has been instrumental in achieving these financial results, with adjusted gross profit reaching new heights. Additionally, the company's cash balance increased to approximately $49.5 million as of June, and total assets reached $133 million, indicating a strong financial position.

A notable aspect of the company's growth is its partnership with the US Department of Energy, which has supported multiple projects on both battery recycling and claystone-to-lithium refining sides. A recent visit from DOE leadership was an opportunity to showcase the progress made in converting Nevada-based claystone material into battery-grade lithium hydroxide.

The company's commitment to sustainability is evident in its scaling of its first facility, with a design rate of about 20,000 tons per year. Revenue has reached new heights due to increased throughput, additional manufacturing of byproducts, and improved pricing for products sold. The feed for the recycling plant comes from a wide variety of sources, further emphasizing the company's dedication to sustainability.
