Ampco-Pittsburgh Sees Record-Breaking Quarter with 50% Jump in Customer Orders
Ampco-Pittsburgh Corporation has reported a significant turn of events in its second quarter 2026 earnings, marking a clear turning point for the company. Despite initial concerns about a net loss, the corporation saw a net income of $1.5 million, or $0.07 per share, compared to a net loss of $7.3 million, or a loss of $0.36 per share in the prior year period.
The improvement was evident across both segments, with demand accelerating significantly. Customer orders of approximately $144 million were up 50% versus the prior year, and backlog grew from $39.9 million to $385.4 million. This growth is attributed to record results in the Air and Liquid segment, as well as actions taken in Forged and Cast Engineered Products.
The Air and Liquid Systems segment delivered remarkable results, with Q2 revenue comparable to the prior year, but year-to-date revenue increasing 9% versus the previous year. Adjusted EBITDA in Q2 increased by 34% compared to the same period last year, driven by improved manufacturing efficiencies that led to significant margin improvement.
Further highlighting the segment's success is its highest-ever adjusted EBITDA for the year-to-date period, which saw a 43% increase from the previous year. Backlog in this segment increased to $23.3 million or 16% in the quarter, representing a 39% higher level than year-end 2025.
The commercial pump and nuclear heat exchanger products are particularly driving growth for Air and Liquid Systems Corporation. Data centers are boosting demand in the power generation market, leading to strong sales of these products.
Ampco-Pittsburgh's CEO, J. Brett McBrayer, attributed this success to record results from the Air and Liquid segment and actions taken in Forged and Cast Engineered Products, including the closure of their U.K. facility. He also highlighted improved manufacturing efficiencies that contributed to significant margin improvement.
CEO McBrayer stated, 'The second quarter marked a clear turning point for Ampco-Pittsburgh.' With customer orders up 50% versus the prior year and backlog at $385.4 million, this is indeed a positive shift in momentum for the company.
