Applied Digital Surges Ahead with Record-Breaking Q1 2027 Performance
Applied Digital, a leading provider of purpose-built AI factories, has made a stellar start to fiscal year 2027, reporting record-breaking performance in the first quarter. The company's Chairman and CEO, Wes Cummins, announced during the quarterly earnings conference call that Applied Digital has secured approximately $36 billion in contracted revenue across five campuses, three states, and two distinct geographic regions of the country.
According to Cummins, the company's focus is on converting its contracted portfolio into sustainable, profitable growth while selectively pursuing new opportunities across its expansive land and power portfolios. This strategy has yielded impressive results, with Applied Digital expecting to place over 600 megawatts into service in the next 12 months, a significant increase from the 250 megawatts achieved in the previous year.
Speaking during the conference call, Cummins emphasized that the company's vision and strategy remain unchanged. He reiterated Applied Digital's goal of becoming the category leader in design, build, deployment, and operation of its purpose-built AI factories. This ambitious objective requires a delicate balance between selecting the right customers, matching them with an optimal funding strategy, and executing consistently on builds.
Applied Digital has made significant strides in achieving this vision, thanks to its proprietary and proven data center design, well-honed supply chain, deep energy partnerships, and demonstrated ability to deliver on lease commitments. Unlike many of its competitors, whose facilities are designed primarily around the 5-6 year life cycle of a GPU, Applied Digital's AI factories are built with a 30-plus year horizon in mind.
This forward-thinking approach has enabled the company to design its AI factories for adaptability as compute architectures, network configurations, and electrical and mechanical requirements evolve over time. Cummins emphasized that Applied Digital's investment strategy is based on core principles intended to extend the useful life of its AI factories and campuses well beyond any single generation of compute architecture.
The company's commitment to long-term sustainability has paid off in Q1 2027, with Applied Digital reporting a significant increase in contracted revenue. This performance demonstrates the company's ability to execute on its vision and strategy, positioning it for continued growth and success in the future.
