Autoliv Exceeds Expectations in Q3 2026: Strong Sales Momentum in Asia and Improved Operational Efficiency
Autoliv Inc. has reported a strong third quarter in a challenging market environment, with adjusted operating margin exceeding earlier indications. The company's positive sales momentum in Asia continued to drive growth, with significant outperformance relative to light vehicle production in both China and India.
CEO Mikael Bratt highlighted the company's discipline execution across the business, which has reinforced confidence in further profitability improvement through year-end. Autoliv's customer partnerships and ongoing efficiency initiatives have positioned the company well to continue delivering value for its stakeholders.
In China, the company outperformed light vehicle production by almost 20 percentage points, driven by strong growth with Chinese OEMs. In India, sales grew by nearly 30% organically, reflecting increased safety concerns in vehicles. Adjusted operating margin reached 9.7%, ahead of earlier indication, reflecting strong operational execution and higher engineering income.
Autoliv's cash flow was strong despite working capital build-up due to strong sales in September. The company repurchased over 1.2 million shares for $150 million and paid dividends of $63 million during the quarter. Based on current guidance, Autoliv reiterates its full-year 2026 outlook of flat organic sales with continued significant outperformance of light vehicle production.
The company has also narrowed down its adjusted operating margin guidance to around 10.5%, which is at the low end of the range of 10.5-11%. This reflects the effectiveness of mitigation actions outlined in the presentation. Operating cash flow guidance remains unchanged, while capital expenditures are now expected to be around 4% of sales, compared with previous expectations of less than 5%.
Autoliv has several positive developments to highlight from the quarter, including expanding its footprint and product offering. The company has opened a second R&D center in China to support growing partnerships with Chinese OEMs. Additionally, Autoliv launched the Human Body Model Safety Suite, a virtual safety development platform that helps automakers evaluate occupant protection through advanced crash simulations.
The launch of this new platform strengthens Autoliv's value proposition and growth opportunities by helping customers improve safety performance earlier and shorten development time. Looking ahead, Autoliv remains well-positioned to continue delivering value for its stakeholders in a challenging market environment."
