Bionano Delivers Strong Second Quarter 2026 Results: Increased Adoption and Growing Momentum

The company's second quarter 2026 financial results have been announced, showcasing a strong performance driven by increased adoption of its optical genome mapping (OGM) technology. The results reflect a vote of confidence from the routine use customer community and accelerating global adoption of OGM.

Speaking on the conference call, Dr. Albert Luderer, Chairman and Interim CEO of Bionano, highlighted the growth of consumable sales this quarter as primarily driven by increased clinical adoption. He emphasized that the foundation of the company's growth will remain the adoption and utilization at existing and new clinical sites.

A key highlight from the quarter is the appointment of Dr. Alex Hastie as Chief Scientific Officer. With over 14 years of experience building Bionano's leadership in OGM, Dr. Hastie is widely regarded as "Mr. Optical Genome Mapping." His return underscores the company's commitment to scientific leadership and expanding commercial and clinical research applications.

Dr. Luderer also provided an update on the ongoing search for his replacement, emphasizing his sole commitment to Bionano until a new CEO is identified. The focus remains on transforming pathology through technology and platform consolidation, automation, and AI-driven software behind their products and solutions.

The company has been deliberately redirecting its focus towards driving profitable growth with existing routine users since September 2024. This strategy is guided by four key pillars: supporting the installed base of routine OGM and VIA software users; increasing OGM utilization through menu expansion and improving ease of use; building support for OGM reimbursement and inclusion in medical society guidelines; and improving profitability and scalability.

Notably, Q2 2026 nanochannel array flow cells sold were up 27% year-over-year at a record 9,219 units. Demand continues to outpace supply, although progress is being made on clearing the backlog. Sales of new OGM systems also contributed to the growth in flow cell sales.

The company's results demonstrate growing momentum and increasing adoption of its technology. As Bionano continues to execute against its strategy, investors will be closely watching for further developments and how they impact the company's future growth prospects.
