BJ's Wholesale Club Shines in Q2 2026 with Strong Sales Growth and Membership Milestone

BJ's Wholesale Club, a leading membership-based retailer, reported a robust second quarter (Q2) 2026 performance, exceeding expectations across various metrics. In its Q2 2026 earnings conference call on August 21, 2026, the company highlighted several key highlights from the period.

Net sales increased by nearly 16% year-over-year, marking the 18th consecutive quarter of traffic growth and the 15th consecutive quarter of market share gains. This impressive streak underscores the company's ability to maintain a strong value proposition for its members. The merchandise comp grew 3.1%, with traffic accelerating during the quarter, demonstrating the effectiveness of BJ's operational execution.

On a 2-year stacked basis, merchandise comps were 5.4%, which is in line with the previous quarter's performance, indicating the durability of BJ's momentum. The company's perishables grocery and sundries division delivered solid comp growth of 2.8% in the quarter, led by grocery, beverages, and active nutrition, where assortment updates through its category management process have been resonating well with members.

The general merchandise and services division sustained comp growth of 5.3% in the quarter, driven by strong performance across various categories, including consumer electronics and home products. The results reflect the company's efforts to put the right products at the right value in front of its members. Gas prices remained elevated during the quarter, but BJ's members continued to seek out the company for great value at the pump, with comp gallons up double digits.

The K-shaped economy persists, though there was some sequential improvement during the quarter. Despite this, the company drove comp growth across all income cohorts, which is encouraging, and its value proposition continues to resonate broadly. However, the majority of BJ's growth remains driven by higher-income members, consistent with historical trends.

Adjusted EPS was $1.36, up 19% year-over-year, marking a remarkable milestone for the company. This achievement eclipses the entire year's earnings when BJ went public in 2018. Membership continued to grow, reaching a new milestone of 8.5 million members this quarter, with an 8% CAGR over the last 25 years.
