BOK Financial Corporation Delivers Strong Q3 2026 Results Despite Challenging Interest Rate Environment

The company reported earnings of $159.9 million, or EPS of $2.64 per diluted share for the third quarter, reflecting another period of solid performance.

Stacy Kymes, CEO of BOK Financial Corporation, highlighted four key factors that drove their results: quality loan growth, meaningful margin expansion, disciplined expense management, and exceptional credit quality. He noted that total loans grew 2.4% linked quarter and were up 11.5% year-over-year.

Stacy Kymes also emphasized the importance of the company's diversified business model, which enables them to perform well across a wide range of economic environments. The CEO stressed that the company has managed its balance sheet with discipline over many years, maintaining risk limits around tangible common equity and regularly monitoring how their capital would change if interest rates rose by 300 basis points.

He also highlighted the challenges posed by the higher rate environment for some of the company's fee-based businesses, such as fixed income trading and mortgage banking. However, he noted that these businesses provide an important source of diversification to their overall earnings profile.

The CEO pointed out that loan growth remains a standout contributor, with total outstanding loans growing $646 million or 2.4% this quarter, representing annualized growth of 9.5%, and grew 11.5% year-over-year. He also mentioned that the core C&I loan portfolio, which represents their combined services and general business portfolios, grew slightly linked quarter but is up 10.9% over the prior year.

Energy lending experienced an outstanding quarter, increasing $264 million or 8.6%, driven by both higher utilization across existing relationships and solid new production. Healthcare loans declined 1.4% this quarter but were still up 3%.

The company's CEO emphasized that they are focused on producing sustainable growth and profitability over time and are not managing the company for one quarter. They are committed to delivering strong performance despite challenging interest rate environments, which gives them flexibility to continue serving clients and investing in growth across a range of market conditions.
