Casey's General Stores Rings Up Strong Q1 2027 Results
Casey's General Stores, a leading convenience store and fuel retailer, has reported robust first-quarter results for fiscal year 2027. The company's strong performance is a testament to the effectiveness of its three-year strategic plan, which was unveiled in June.
According to the Q1 2027 earnings conference call transcript, Casey's diluted EPS finished at $7.37 per share, up 28% from the prior year. Net income was $274 million, an increase of 27% from the previous year. The company generated $485 million in EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization), a 17% rise from the prior year, and a notable 40% increase on a two-year stack basis.
One of the key drivers behind Casey's strong Q1 performance is its Prepared Food and Dispensed Beverages (PF&DB) segment. PF&DB transactions were up over 100 basis points, leading to a nearly 4% rise in PF&DB units versus the same period in the prior year. The company attributes this growth to guests gravitating towards its abundant offerings, compelling value, and continued innovation, such as its bacon cheeseburger pizza LTO (Limited Time Offer).
Inside margin expansion was primarily driven by Prepared Food and Dispensed Beverage mix. Meanwhile, in the forecourt, Casey's developed capabilities helped navigate a volatile environment.
"I'd like to thank the entire Casey's team for their hard work during our 100 days of summer and for the excellent job they did serving our guests," said Darren Rebelez, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer. "We are through the first quarter of our fiscal 2027 to 2029 three-year strategic plan that we laid out in June, where we highlighted Casey's advantaged convenience QSR flywheel with our three lines of business under one operating cost structure."
Casey's commitment to giving back to its communities is also evident. The company's annual Cash for Classrooms campaign raised over $1.8 million, a new record and testament to the shared commitment between Casey's, guests, team members, and supplier partner Coca-Cola.
The Q1 results demonstrate Casey's ability to execute its strategic plan and realize synergies from it. As the company continues to navigate a dynamic market, its strong first-quarter performance is a promising indicator of future success.
