Coupang's Q2 2026 Earnings Report: A Resilient Performance Amid Challenges

Coupang, one of Asia's leading e-commerce companies, has released its second-quarter earnings for 2026, showcasing a resilient performance amidst challenges. The company's revenue grew 10% year-over-year in constant currency, meeting the guidance provided earlier.

The product commerce segment saw an 8% year-over-year increase in revenue, despite being impacted by a data incident last year that affected customer behavior. Bom Kim, Founder and CEO of Coupang, highlighted that the vast majority of customers who spent money on the platform did not leave permanently, with many returning to their full prior spend levels and even increasing their expenditure.

Notably, new customers continue to arrive, with Total WOW membership exceeding its pre-incident levels. This is a positive sign for Coupang's business, as it indicates that the company is still attracting new users who are likely to contribute to revenue growth in the future.

The spend of all customers, excluding those affected by the incident, grew around 16% year-over-year, which is closer to the spend growth delivered by product commerce in Q2 last year. This suggests that Coupang's underlying customer base remains strong and is driving revenue growth.

In terms of margins, Coupang is continuing to work through the disruption caused by the data incident. The company plans capacity and fixed costs against predicted demand curves, which has resulted in a larger share of revenue being dedicated to these expenses. However, Bom Kim emphasized that cutting these costs would compromise the customer experience, which remains Coupang's top priority.

Looking ahead, Coupang expects to recover meaningful volume-based savings in its supply chain next year. This is a positive development for the company's profitability and should help offset some of the costs associated with the data incident.

Overall, Coupang's Q2 2026 earnings report demonstrates the company's resilience and ability to navigate challenges. With a strong underlying customer base and a focus on customer experience, Coupang is well-positioned for continued growth and success in the future.
