Daktronics Kicks Off Fiscal Year with Strong Q1 Performance

In a recent conference call, Daktronics, a leading provider of electronic display systems for various applications, reported a strong start to its fiscal year 2027. The company's first quarter financial results exceeded expectations, driven by growth in sales, operating income, and earnings per share (EPS).

According to Ramesh Jayaraman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Daktronics, the company delivered 7.1% net sales growth in Q1, supported by strong demand across key end markets. This was despite a quarter that was one week shorter than last year's. The company also expanded its operating income by 7.2%, with EPS growing to $0.40 for the quarter.

The new business pipeline remains robust, with the year-over-year bookings and backlog comparison mainly reflecting order timing. As Ramesh noted, the company negotiated substantial projects in Q1 that are expected to receive purchase orders in Q2. Daktronics' focus on growth and operational efficiency generated $31.4 million in cash from operations during the quarter.

One of the highlights of the quarter was the successful ramp-up of the company's Mexico manufacturing plant, which completed its first major production run of a narrow pixel pitch product. This is expected to ship in late Q2. Additionally, Daktronics' Camino 8, a next-generation real-time 2D/3D graphics rendering engine that integrates with the company's Show Control, debuted at the Angel Stadium for the Los Angeles Angels home opener and is now in full deployment.

Starting this fall, Camino 8 will be installed in more than 10 venues across the NHL, MLS, and NCAA football, volleyball, and basketball programs. This represents a significant expansion of Daktronics' capabilities in live events, where the company continues to see strong demand for its products. The company's pipeline remains robust in this segment, driven by the increasing adoption of real-time graphics and video.

Daktronics also reported progress on key strategic initiatives, including augmenting its management team with key leadership additions in marketing and procurement. This is expected to help the company scale its business more efficiently. Overall, the strong Q1 performance sets Daktronics up for a promising fiscal year ahead."
