Darden Delivers Solid Q1 Results, Fueled by Strength in Key Segments

The first quarter of fiscal 2027 marked a solid start to the year for Darden, with results meeting expectations across all segments. According to Ms. Courtney Aquila, President and CEO Rick Cardenas highlighted that each segment delivered positive same-restaurant sales during the quarter.

Guest satisfaction scores across the company's brands remained at or near record highs for the quarter, reflecting the hard work of restaurant teams in maintaining strong operating fundamentals.

Olive Garden led the charge, posting 1% growth in same-restaurant sales. The brand continues to pair menu innovation with compelling value, as seen in their Calabrian Summer promotion and Season of Garlic offering. Notably, Olive Garden was well-positioned to capitalize on external events that sparked broader consumer concern about lettuce, demonstrating its ability to adapt and drive traffic.

The Never-Ending Pasta Bowl (NEPB) promotion remains a key driver for the brand. This year's launch included two new menu additions: Spicy Alfredo sauce and crispy Shrimp Fritta as a protein topping. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with increased buy-ups for unlimited protein toppings during NEPB.

In support of the NEPB launch, Olive Garden brought back its Never-Ending Pasta Pass after a six-year hiatus. This move generated significant social media buzz, with 3 million devices logging in for the pasta pass sale. Notably, all 10,000 passes sold out immediately.

The popularity of Olive Garden was further reaffirmed by YouGov's Best Bites 2026: U.S. Restaurant Brand Rankings report, which ranked it as the number one casual dining brand for consideration when dining out across multiple generational cohorts, including millennials.

While the industry saw a slight increase in average same-restaurant sales of 2.4% and a decrease in guest counts by 0.2%, Darden's own comparable calendar basis provided a clearer picture of its performance.

The company has made significant strides in controlling costs and executing strategic priorities, positioning itself for long-term growth.

Looking ahead to Q2, investors can expect another exciting quarter with the launch of new promotions and continued focus on operational excellence. Darden will release fiscal 2027 second-quarter earnings on Friday, December 18th, before the market opens, followed by a conference call.
