DICK'S Sporting Goods Delivers Strong Sales Growth Amid Challenging Market Conditions

DICK's Sporting Goods, Inc., a leading omni-channel retailer of sporting goods, has reported strong sales growth in its second quarter 2026 results. The company delivered a nearly 5% comp sales gain for the DICK's business, with many areas of strength across its portfolio.

Executive Chairman Ed Stack highlighted the importance of remaining competitively priced to protect leadership position and create long-term value. "We have always managed our business for the long term," he said. "Protecting our leadership position will create long-term value, and we view the pricing investments we are making today as an investment in the future strength of our business."

The company's diversified business model, broad category mix, and balanced brand portfolio helped it navigate much of the pressure from the increasingly promotional environment. Many areas of the DICK's business, such as team sports and license, were particularly strong. New emerging apparel brands generated strong athlete engagements, and footwear categories like running, cleats, and outdoor remained healthy.

However, the impact was more significant at Foot Locker, which is more dependent on launch and retro product. The company took a hit from fewer launches in the second quarter, with those that did occur performing below industry and expectations. This had a meaningful impact on results across the Foot Locker business.

"The inventory built up across the industry supply chains and across the retail marketplace, which led to an increasingly aggressive promotional environment," said Stack. "In response to these changes in the market, we felt it was important to remain competitively priced to protect our leadership position."

The company is taking action to shift the mix toward in-demand brands at Foot Locker. While it expects the launch calendar to be more favorable in the back half of the year, the quality of those launches will be critical.

Stack emphasized that protecting market share and delivering strong sales growth are top priorities for DICK's Sporting Goods. "We are taking a proactive approach to adapt to changing consumer preferences," he said. "Our goal is to position ourselves for long-term success and create value for our shareholders."
