Duolingo Surges Ahead: Q3 Earnings Exceed Expectations
Yesterday evening, Duolingo, the popular language-learning platform, released its Q3 earnings report, exceeding expectations across key metrics. The company's quarterly shareholder letter and conference call provided a comprehensive overview of its performance.
According to Luis von Ahn, Co-Founder and CEO, Duolingo experienced 29% year-over-year growth in daily active users (DAU), marking the second consecutive quarter of accelerated user acquisition. This significant milestone was attributed to the company's strategic focus on teaching better and prioritizing user growth.
Von Ahn emphasized that this momentum is expected to continue, with DAU growth anticipated to remain similar in Q4 compared to Q3. Furthermore, bookings, revenue, and profitability were all ahead of expectations, solidifying Duolingo's position as a leader in the language-learning market.
Gillian Munson, CFO, provided additional context on the company's performance, highlighting that DAU growth accelerated across eight of its 10 largest countries. Moreover, subscription bookings growth was in double digits in the majority of regions served by Duolingo.
The Q3 earnings report also featured a significant bonus accrual, totaling $11 million, which rewards the team for re-accelerating user growth. This bonus is expected to be paid out in full in early 2027.
Looking ahead to Q4, Duolingo expects year-over-year bookings growth of 13%, revenue growth of 14%, and an Adjusted EBITDA margin of 26.1%. The company also provided guidance for the full year, anticipating 12% year-over-year bookings growth and 18% revenue growth, paired with a 26.5% Adjusted EBITDA margin.
With these impressive results, Duolingo continues to solidify its position as a pioneer in the language-learning industry. The company's ambition to reach one billion learners and build a larger business over time remains unwavering, fueled by the continued acceleration of user growth and revenue.
