GEN Restaurant Group Delivers Strong Q2 2026 Performance, Riding Korean Food Wave to New Heights

GEN Restaurant Group, a leading player in the food industry, has reported impressive second-quarter 2026 results, capitalizing on the surging demand for Korean cuisine in the United States. In a conference call with investors, Chairman and CEO David Kim highlighted the company's strategic position within this rapidly growing market.

"You cannot manufacture demand," Kim emphasized, "you can only find it and then get in front of it." He noted that Korean food exports to the U.S. have grown significantly, with K-food exports up 13.2% year-over-year, while Korean sauce exports reached a record $411 million and ramen sales crossed $1.5 billion, nearly doubling.

Kim pointed out that these numbers demonstrate the rising popularity of Korean cuisine in America, which is not limited to niche markets but has become a global food culture. Circana Consumer Intelligence data showed that retail sales of Asian packaged food in the U.S. grew four times faster than overall packaged food sales, with kimchi cases experiencing an 80% increase.

The American consumer's growing affinity for Korean foods is further underscored by Supermarket News' finding that 61% of Americans express interest in trying or liking Korean cuisine. This trend extends beyond traditional markets, as Asian food unit sales in mainstream U.S. supermarkets have grown 4% annually on unit growth.

The demand for Korean cuisine is being driven by a combination of factors, including generational differences and changes in consumer preferences. As younger purchasing managers take the reins, their familiarity with K-food products has contributed to increased shelf space allocation and sales growth.

With GEN Restaurant Group poised at the forefront of this trend, investors are taking note. Kim expressed confidence in the company's position within the Korean food market, stating that "the American consumer is reaching for it." As the popularity of Korean cuisine continues to soar, GEN Restaurant Group appears well-positioned to capitalize on this opportunity and drive future growth.

The company's Q2 2026 results demonstrate a strong performance in this rapidly evolving market. With its strategic focus on Korean food, GEN Restaurant Group has established itself as a key player in the industry, and investors are likely to be encouraged by the company's position within this high-growth segment.
