HDFC Bank Delivers Strong Q2 Results Amid Festive Season Boom

**HDFC Bank's Resilient Performance Continues in Q2 FY 2027**

Mumbai, India - HDFC Bank Limited has showcased another robust quarter with impressive growth across various segments, according to the company's recent conference call transcript. The bank's CEO-led team presented a positive outlook for the Indian economy and highlighted key highlights from the second quarter of fiscal year 2027.

**Strong GDP Growth**

The GDP growth in Q1 FY 2027 has been better than anticipated, with high-frequency indicators such as industrial production, strong e-way bill, cargo activity, credit growth reflecting sustained momentum. Retail consumption growth has also been robust, with passenger vehicles and two-wheeler sales growing upwards of 30-plus percent year-on-year. This bodes well for the economy, especially with the festive season underway.

**Liability Growth Accelerates**

The bank's liabilities franchise has strengthened, delivering impressive results. Deposits increased 18.8% YoY on a reported basis, including a 4 percentage point lift from special FCNR window. CASA (Current and Savings Account) grew at about 10.8% on an overall basis, with retail CASA growth reaching about 11.2% YoY compared to 9% year ago. The bank added around 1.7 million liability relationships in the second quarter, a 25% increase from Q1 and 33% higher than the fourth quarter of last year.

**Asset Growth Accelerates**

The asset side of the balance sheet also saw significant growth, with Total AUM (Assets Under Management) growing 15.3% YoY, including a 1.9% impact of FCNR leverage. SME and retail assets led the charge, with the pace of retail disbursements accelerating and crossing INR 90,000 crore during Q2 FY 2027 as against INR 76,000 crore in Q1 of this year.

**Digital Adoption Gains Momentum**

The company has been focusing on digital adoption and straight-through processing, which is moving up significantly. The turnaround times on product deliveries have come down anywhere between 10% and 15% in a short span of time, while service delivery TATs (Turnaround Times) have come down by 30% during the quarter. This has resulted in customer visits per resource per day going up significantly compared to the prior quarter.

**MSME and Mid-Market Business Grows Rapidly**

The MSME and mid-market business growth momentum is also improving rapidly, with September 2026 EOP (End of Period) loan growth reaching 23.5% YoY compared to 17-18% year-on-year growth seen in the last few quarters.

**ECLGS 5.0 Scheme Success**

The bank has successfully leveraged the ECLGS 5.0 scheme, with disbursements of INR 41,000 crore being the highest across all banks as of August 2026 when the scheme achieved targeted levels. What is driving this momentum? Since May 2026, the entire retail and MSME business and channel supervisory architecture across the country have been focusing on daily operating rigor across frontline, credit and operations and service verticals, working from one view across products and across all channels to ensure same day, same time resolution of delivery of products and services, queries, and complaints.
