Hope Bancorp Delivers Strong Q2 2026 Results, Expands Capabilities Through Strategic Acquisition

Hope Bancorp, a leading community banking institution, recently reported its second quarter (Q2) 2026 earnings results, showcasing a strong performance across key operating priorities. The company's revenue for the quarter reached $148 million, driving reported diluted earnings per share of $0.26, up 12% from the previous quarter.

Notably, Hope Bancorp's Q2 2026 pre-provision net revenue totaled $49 million, representing a 6% sequential increase from the first quarter of 2026. Excluding notable items, which were primarily merger-related, the company's pre-provision net revenue was $51 million, up 10% from the prior quarter and 25% year-over-year.

The bank's loan portfolio continued to grow, increasing 2% or 8% annualized to $15 billion as of June 30, 2026. Deposits also rose by 1% or 4% annualized to $15.9 billion, with a notable improvement in the deposit mix. The company's non-maturity deposits grew more than offsetting a planned decline in time deposits, contributing to lower funding costs.

Hope Bancorp's capital position remains strong, with a common equity Tier 1 ratio of 12.27% and a total capital ratio of 13.95%. This allows the bank to support organic growth, complete its pending acquisition of the commercial banking unit of SMBC MANUBANK, and return capital to stockholders.

In fact, Hope Bancorp has already returned $45 million of capital to shareholders through cash dividends and common stock repurchases year-to-date in 2026. The company also repurchased approximately 773,000 shares of common stock at an average price of $11.25 per share for a total of $9 million pursuant to its existing $50 million share repurchase authorization.

Moreover, Hope Bancorp's board of directors declared a quarterly common stock dividend of $0.14 per share payable on or around August 20, 2026, to stockholders of record as of August sixth, 2026.

The company's pending acquisition of the commercial banking unit of SMBC MANUBANK is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. This strategic move aims to enhance Hope Bancorp's capabilities by expanding its middle market and multinational banking services, developing specialty deposit verticals, broadening its presence in its core Southern California market, and improving its balance sheet with quality loans and attractive deposits.

"Hope Bancorp's Q2 2026 results demonstrate the company's commitment to delivering strong financial performance while executing on its strategic priorities," said Kevin Kim, Hope Bancorp Chairman, President, and CEO. "We remain focused on driving organic growth, expanding our capabilities through strategic acquisitions, and creating value for our shareholders."
