Intuitive Surge in Global Adoption Drives 16% Procedure Growth in Q2 2026
Intuitive, a leading medical technology company, reported solid performance in its second quarter 2026 earnings conference call. The company saw continued global adoption across its MultiPort, da Vinci SP, and Ion platforms, with steady execution by its teams.
Total procedures increased 16% in Q2, driven by 15% growth in da Vinci procedures and 36% growth in Ion procedures. The global installed base of da Vinci and Ion systems increased by 12% and 21% respectively, leaving the company with almost 13,000 systems installed worldwide.
In the U.S., da Vinci procedure growth was 12%, led by general surgery, with after-hours procedures increasing 26%. However, growth in the U.S. moderated from recent trends and the company's expectations at the start of the year, predominantly in procedures that can be deferred. As patients return to care, Intuitive expects da Vinci to remain a clear choice for their surgeons and care teams.
Outside the U.S., da Vinci procedure growth was 20%, with Europe and Asia each up 20% and rest of world markets up 22%. In China, the environment remains challenging due to lower tender activity, increased domestic robotic competition, and policy-driven pricing pressure. Intuitive continues to operate through a dynamic policy environment, engaging with provincial governments on charge code policies and progressing through the Green Channel process for both SP and da Vinci 5.
In Japan, new policies supporting robotic surgery went into effect on June 1st, including reimbursement for additional procedures and economic incentives for higher utilization programs. Intuitive is encouraged by the direction of the policy environment as well as early response to these initiatives. India had another strong quarter with momentum across a broad set of procedures.
The company placed 468 da Vinci systems and 55 Ion systems in the quarter, reflecting continued customer demand for its newer platforms and confidence in the value of its ecosystem. Within MultiPort, placements reflected strong adoption of da Vinci 5, including dual consoles, and continued demand for its fourth generation systems where their proven capabilities and value meet customer needs.
Intuitive rolled out the first phase of more than 100 planned updates to the da Vinci 5 platform in the quarter. The company's CEO, Dave Rosa, highlighted the solid performance and steady execution by its teams, while CFO Jamie Samath provided a review of the financial results and procedure highlights. The question-and-answer session that followed allowed investors to engage with Intuitive's leadership team.
