JAKKS Pacific Hits Stride as Q3 Sales Surge 20% to $254M
At the midpoint of its fiscal year, JAKKS Pacific has reason to celebrate with a 20% spike in third-quarter sales, reaching $254 million. Chairman and CEO Stephen Berman expressed optimism about the company's execution this year and potential future prospects during an earnings conference call on October 22nd.
The company's quarterly sales outpaced those of last year by a wide margin, with a significant boost attributed to the reversal of delayed planogram sets and lower U.S. tariffs. On a year-to-date basis, JAKKS Pacific's sales have surged by 13% compared to the previous year.
Notably, the company's FOB (Free on Board) business model continues to thrive, accounting for over 75% of its sales in the first nine months of the year. Additionally, buying patterns are reportedly returning to pre-tariff quarterly seasonality, indicating a stabilization of market trends.
The North American segment was a standout performer during Q3, registering a 28% increase and now boasting a year-to-date growth rate of 14%. Despite a slight dip in the quarter, Europe remained marginally up, while total international sales netted out at 4% down. However, the international segment still shows an encouraging year-over-year growth rate of 7%, with expectations for a solid fourth-quarter performance.
A particular highlight was JAKKS Pacific's dolls, role play, and dress-up business, which led the quarter with a robust 29% growth rate and now sports a year-to-date increase of 7%. The Disney segment is leading this charge, with retail POS rates at major accounts tracking up in double digits.
The action play and collectibles division also continued its impressive run, boasting a 19% growth in the quarter thanks to the success of the Super Mario Galaxy film and core Nintendo evergreen business. Although comparable POS data was roughly flat against last year's Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and DC x Sonic the Hedgehog crossover initiatives, it still managed mid-single-digit year-to-date growth.
The company's costumes division experienced a solid quarter as well, albeit slightly ahead of 2024 figures, with $62 million in sales for Q3 and a total of $111 million for the first nine months. Most U.S. accounts saw double-digit increases this year, with JAKKS Pacific also pleased with its traction in Europe.
