Metallus Inc. Surges into Record-Breaking Q3 with $250M Aerospace and Defense Run Rate Milestone
Metallus Inc., a leading provider of critical defense materials, has just released its third-quarter earnings report for 2026, highlighting a year-over-year increase in profitability, a major milestone in aerospace and defense sales, and significant wins in the defense market.
In a conference call on November 3rd, Metallus' CEO Mike Williams reported that the company's Q3 results reflect "strong execution across the organization," citing operational excellence, commercial discipline, and strategic initiatives as key drivers of growth. This disciplined approach has led to a third consecutive quarter of increased profitability.
One of the most notable achievements in the quarter was the attainment of Metallus' $250 million annualized aerospace and defense run rate sales target. This milestone was made possible by the company's dedicated teams working across the organization, expanding partnerships with customers, and delivering critical solutions for evolving customer needs.
The company also reached several significant milestones that support its long-term growth strategy. In August, Metallus commissioned new strategic manufacturing assets supporting critical defense materials, a major step forward in strengthening the domestic munition supply chain and U.S. national security.
In late September, Metallus was awarded a $125 million contract by the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to supply steel for critical defense applications, with a ceiling of up to $995 million over five years. This award demonstrates Metallus' ability to produce specialty steel products that meet rigorous performance, quality, and traceability requirements.
Additionally, the company recently secured a $10 million purchase order from a new prime contractor for finished, fully assembled components supporting a growing munitions program. This order highlights Metallus' capabilities and reputation in providing solutions for expanding customer needs.
According to Mike Williams, these wins are not isolated events but rather reflect the sustained effort of the company's team in growing and deepening its presence in the aerospace and defense market. The recent achievement of AS9100 certification provides external validation that Metallus' focus on this market is working.
In other news, Mike Williams announced his planned retirement as CEO at the end of the year, with Kris Westbrooks, President and Chief Operating Officer, set to succeed him. This transition reflects a well-planned and seamless succession plan, positioning Metallus for continued momentum into the future.
